Leboncoin in English: how to sell as an expat (2026)

Leboncoin has no English version and listings must be in French. How to sell there from France, step by step, and the English app that writes them in French.

FillSell teamPublished Updated

Leboncoin is where France sells its stuff: 30 million visitors a month, by Leboncoin's own count (March 2026). Sofas, prams, bikes, jackets, phones. Whatever is gathering dust in your flat, someone a few streets away is searching for it.

For English speakers, there are two hurdles. Leboncoin has no English version, and your listing has to be written in French. Neither is a dealbreaker. This guide covers everything you need to sell there from France — account, rules, payment, delivery, safety — checked against Leboncoin's help centre on 9 October 2026. Then the shortcut: an app in English that turns one photo into a Leboncoin listing written in French.

The short version

  • No English Leboncoin. The site, the app and the help centre are in French only. Your browser can translate the pages so you can read them; your listing still has to be written in French.
  • You need to be in France. From abroad, Leboncoin blocks posting a listing and buying with secure payment, and its messaging generally works only for conversations started from France.
  • You need the right mobile number. French, or from an EU country, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco or a French overseas territory. UK and US numbers are not on Leboncoin's list.
  • Selling costs you nothing in most categories. Posting is free for private sellers outside some Vehicles and Real estate subcategories, and secure payment is free for the seller: the buyer pays the fees.
  • The shortcut: FillSell's Lens writes your Leboncoin listing in French from a photo, inside an app that speaks English. The Chrome extension then posts it from your own Leboncoin session, and the same item can go out on Vinted, Leboncoin, eBay, Beebs, and Depop.

Is there an English version of Leboncoin?

No. We checked three ways on 9 October 2026:

WhereLanguageWhat it means for you
The Leboncoin app (App Store)French onlyMenus, buttons and notifications in French
The help centre (assistance.leboncoin.info)French onlyRules and how-tos in French
Leboncoin's own words“not designed for international use”No English mode is coming to the rescue

For comparison, Vinted's app lists 21 languages on the App Store, English included.

So how do English speakers cope? On a computer, your browser's built-in translation turns Leboncoin's pages into readable English (in Chrome: right-click, then “Translate to English”). That is enough to browse, read the help centre and follow a conversation. It doesn't fix the hard part: writing. Leboncoin's rules say every listing must be written in French — a legal obligation, Leboncoin says, under the French language law of 4 August 1994. A listing in English breaks the rules, however good the photos.

What you need before your first listing

You needWhat Leboncoin's help saysExpat tip
A Leboncoin accountFree, and mandatory to buy or sell. Sign up with your email, “Continuer avec Google” or “Continuer avec Apple” (Apple isn't offered on Android).Google or Apple sign-in skips the password step.
A mobile numberMandatory, checked by a code sent by SMS. French numbers are accepted, plus numbers from every EU country, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco and the French overseas territories. One number, one account.UK, US, Canadian and Australian numbers are not on the list: get a French or EU SIM first.
To be in FrancePosting a listing is not possible from abroad.Leaving France for good? Post before you go.
An IBANNeeded to receive your sales on your bank account. You can add it after your first listing: Mon compte, Informations personnelles, Moyens de paiement. IBANs linked to a Trade Republic account are not accepted.Add it early, so your first sale isn't a scramble.
An ID documentAbove a certain amount of transactions, Leboncoin asks for an ID card or a passport: valid, in colour, sharp, all four corners visible.Leboncoin names the passport alongside the ID card.

Selling a lot, or buying to resell? Leboncoin is clear: if you buy items in order to resell them, regularly and in volume, you need a Pro account — free to create, and mandatory for professionals. Auto-entrepreneurs go through a Pro account too. It changes the rules: no secure payment with a hand-over in person, and new products from professionals are refused in categories such as Mode and Maison.

Tax. Under the EU's DAC7 reporting rules, Leboncoin passes your transaction history to the French tax authorities once you reach 30 completed transactions or €2,000 in a calendar year. Leboncoin adds that this does not necessarily mean you owe tax.

The rules your Leboncoin listing must follow

Leboncoin checks listings and refuses the ones that break its rules. The ones that trip up newcomers:

  1. Written in French. Title and description, no exceptions.
  2. One listing per item. You can't post the same ad twice: each listing needs its own title, description and photos, and a photo can't already be used in another of your listings.
  3. Located where the item is. Your listing sits in the commune where the item is, even if you offer delivery across France.
  4. No contact details. No phone number or email address in the title, the description or a photo.
  5. No links. Nothing that sends buyers to a site other than leboncoin.fr — so no “see my other shop”.
  6. Right category, first time. The category can't be changed after posting: you would have to delete the listing and post it again.
  7. Your own photos. Up to 20 free photos in Mode, Famille, Maison et jardin, Électronique and Loisirs. Photos must be yours or royalty-free; pictures with a link, a QR code or contact details are refused.

How long does a listing stay online? It depends on the category. Leboncoin's help says some categories, Mode included, have no time limit, and the exact duration shows when you post. When a listing expires, the “Prolonger” button (or the renewal email) extends it for free outside Vehicles and Real estate.

Step by step: your first sale on Leboncoin

  1. Create your account. “Se connecter”, top right of the home page, then your email, Google or Apple, and the SMS code.
  2. Shoot good photos. Daylight, a plain background, the label, any flaw.
  3. Write in French. A clear title (item, brand, size, colour) and an honest description of the condition.
  4. Post. “Déposer une annonce”: category, photos, title, description, price, location.
  5. Choose how it changes hands. Delivery, a hand-over in person, or both. Secure payment comes switched on by default with delivery.
  6. Answer your messages. Buyers write in Leboncoin's messaging, in French.
  7. Confirm availability, fast. Once a buyer has paid, you have 48 hours to confirm the item is available, or the sale is cancelled automatically.
  8. Ship or meet. The buyer then has 3 days to confirm everything is as described.
  9. Get paid. The money lands in your Leboncoin wallet. Transfer it to your bank account whenever you like.

Getting paid: secure payment, delivery or hand-over

Secure payment (“Transaction sécurisée”, also called “paiement sécurisé”) is the backbone of selling on Leboncoin. For the seller, it is free.

With deliveryHand-over in person
The seller paysNothingNothing
The buyer pays in fees€0.70 + 5 % of the price€1.99 at most with a private seller
Example: a €40 jacket€2.70 in fees, plus postage€1.99 at most
You receive€40€40

With a hand-over, the buyer pays online, you confirm availability within 48 hours, you agree on a place and time in the messaging, and on the day the buyer checks the item and releases the payment from the app. You can also untick delivery and keep the hand-over only, cash included — but Leboncoin states that it guarantees nothing done outside its messaging and secure payment.

With delivery, the buyer pays the postage and picks a carrier among the ones you allow:

CarrierHighest item priceHighest weight
Mondial Relay (relay point)€2,00025 kg
Shop2Shop by Chronopost€2,00020 kg
Colissimo€40030 kg at a drop-off point, 5 kg from a letterbox
Courrier suivi€4002 kg, 3 cm thick

A concrete case: you sell a pram for €450. Colissimo and Courrier suivi are out, because of their €400 ceiling. Mondial Relay or Shop2Shop by Chronopost can take it if it fits their size and weight limits. Otherwise, a hand-over does the job. Limits come from Leboncoin's help and can change: check them when you post.

Staying safe: Leboncoin's own anti-scam rules

When the language isn't yours, a scam is harder to spot. Leboncoin's help centre lists the warning signs:

  • Keep every exchange in Leboncoin's secure messaging, and every payment in secure payment.
  • Never give a buyer a verification code, your card number or your ID documents.
  • Be wary of external links, urgent requests for money and messages that never mention your item.
  • Leboncoin will never ask you to validate a payment through a QR code in the messaging.
  • An email says you've been paid, but nothing shows in the messaging? Don't ship anything.
  • Leboncoin never phones you about a blocked account.

Leboncoin even counts spelling mistakes among the signs of a suspicious message. Worth remembering when you write your own listing.

The shortcut: sell on Leboncoin from an app in English

Doing all of the above by hand works. Doing it for every item, in a language that isn't yours, gets old fast. FillSell takes the heavy lifting off your plate. It's free on the App Store and Google Play, and it also runs in a browser at fillsell.app. The app works in English and French: it follows your phone's language, and you switch it in Settings, Preferences, Language.

Lens writes your listing in French

Take a photo. Lens recognises the item, reads the brand when it can see it on the item, suggests a condition and a price based on comparable listings found online — and shows you how many listings that price relies on. Then it writes the title and the description.

Here's what changes everything for an English speaker: the Leboncoin version comes out in French, even with the app set to English and your notes typed in English. Same for the versions it writes for Vinted France, eBay France and Beebs. Each marketplace gets its own listing, adapted to its fields: category, size, colour, parcel. You read every version before it leaves, and if your French is still shaky, a translator does the rest. More on Lens, the AI that writes your listings (in French), and on what makes a listing sell (in French).

The extension posts it, from your own session

Tick Leboncoin. The free FillSell extension for Chrome fills in the Leboncoin form on your computer, inside the Leboncoin session you already have open. FillSell never asks for your Leboncoin password.

  • One listing at a time, at a human pace. On Leboncoin, one at a time per account.
  • It never buys a paid option on your behalf.
  • Leboncoin reviews new listings: they can take a while to appear.
  • If anything's missing, the app asks you.

Your phone gives the orders; your computer does the legwork. For your listings to go out, the computer must be on with Chrome open, and while listings are queued the extension keeps it from going to sleep. Computer off? Nothing is lost: your listings wait and go out the next time Chrome opens.

Already on Leboncoin? One tap brings it all in

Tap “Sync” in the app: your listings already live on Vinted, Leboncoin, eBay, Beebs, and Depop land in your FillSell stock, neatly filed. Free and unlimited. Syncing only reads: nothing is published or edited. The same item live on two marketplaces becomes a single card — FillSell compares the photos and the title, and when in doubt, it asks you instead of guessing.

Sold on Leboncoin? Confirm, and the rest follows

When an item sells on Leboncoin, FillSell asks you to confirm the sale with one tap. When Vinted or eBay marks an item sold, FillSell records the sale on its own. Either way, once the sale is recorded, FillSell removes the item's other listings — the copies it can prove are the same item. If it has any doubt about a listing, it asks “Already sold?” before touching it. Sold here, removed there. The full rules: sales and delisting (in French).

Keep your listings near the top

On Leboncoin, climbing back to the top of the results is a paid option (“Remonter en tête de liste”). FillSell does something else: it reposts. The listing is removed and put back online, so it goes back to the top of the results — its views and favourites start from zero. FillSell never buys the paid option.

Depending on your subscription, your listings bump themselves back up on Vinted, Leboncoin, Beebs, and Depop, on the days and in the time slot you choose, with your computer on; otherwise, you repost a listing with one tap. FillSell spaces out your reposts at a human pace to protect your account, and you switch it all off in one tap. More on automatic reposting (in French).

One honest note

The extension's small panel, and its Chrome Web Store page, are in French for now. The panel only has a handful of words: “Se connecter” (sign in), “Plateformes” (marketplaces), “Prête à publier” (ready to publish), “Ouvrir l'appli” (open the app). Everything else, you drive from the app, in English.

Beyond Leboncoin: the same item on five marketplaces

Leboncoin is one door. FillSell works today with Vinted, Leboncoin, eBay, Beebs, and Depop, from a single stock. Tick one more box and the same item reaches a whole new crowd:

  • Vinted France for clothes and pieces that move fast. A sale there is recorded on its own.
  • eBay: once your account is linked through eBay's official page, your listings go out on eBay France through eBay's official API, even with your computer off.
  • Beebs for everything kids and family.
  • Depop for fashion, vintage and streetwear. Its help centre is in English, and you allow FillSell's access to Depop with one click in the extension.

FAQ

Is there an English version of Leboncoin?

No. Leboncoin's website, app and help centre are in French only: the App Store lists French as the app's only language, and Leboncoin says itself that it is not designed for international use. On a computer, your browser can translate the pages so you can read them, but your listings must still be written in French.

Can I write my Leboncoin listing in English?

No. Leboncoin's rules say a listing must be written in French, a legal obligation under the French language law of 4 August 1994. With FillSell, you can use the app in English and still get a Leboncoin listing written in French: Lens writes it from your photo, and you check it before it goes out.

Can I open a Leboncoin account with a UK or US phone number?

A valid mobile number is mandatory, checked by a code sent by SMS. Leboncoin accepts French numbers and numbers from a list of countries that covers the EU, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco and the French overseas territories. UK and US numbers are not on that list (Leboncoin help, read on 9 October 2026), so plan on a French or EU mobile number.

Can I sell on Leboncoin from outside France?

No. From abroad, Leboncoin blocks posting a listing and buying with secure payment, and its messaging generally works only for conversations started from France. Searching and browsing still work. If you are leaving France, post your items before you go.

How do I get paid on Leboncoin?

Through secure payment, which is free for the seller: the buyer pays the fees. The money lands in your Leboncoin wallet once the sale is complete, and you can transfer it to your bank account at any time. To receive it, you add an IBAN to your account, and above a certain amount of transactions Leboncoin asks for an ID card or a passport.

Does FillSell translate my listings into French?

FillSell's Lens writes your Leboncoin listing directly in French, even when the app is set to English and your notes are in English. It does the same for the versions it writes for Vinted France, eBay France and Beebs. You read and edit each version before it goes out, so keep a translator handy if your French is still shaky.

Is the FillSell app in English?

Yes. The FillSell app works in English and French on iPhone, Android and the web. It follows your phone's language, and you can switch it in Settings, Preferences, Language. The Chrome extension's small panel is still in French for now, but it only has a few buttons: you drive everything from the app.

How much does FillSell cost?

FillSell is free to start, with no credit card, and the Chrome extension is free. Paid plans cost €12.99 (Premium), €29.99 (Pro) and €59.99 (Business) a month, with no commitment.

Your stock deserves to be seen everywhere.
